Super Contractor Truck

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Super Contractor Truck?

The Super Contractor Truck is a commercial duty work truck designed and built for contractors. The Super Contractor combines a rugged dump truck with roomy, walk-in tool storage in one compact truck. It’s like getting two trucks in one. The Super Contractor truck combines a box truck and a dump truck in one easy-to-drive truck. Transport contracting crews, construction tools and job supplies without having to tow a trailer. Most Super Contractor Trucks are built on an Isuzu N series single cab or crew cab truck chassis.

What type of contractors like to use a Super Contractor Truck?

Landscaping, hardscaping, seasonal enhancement, fencing, masonry, and general contractors love the roomy tool storage plus the rugged cargo-hauling dump truck combination. In many cases, contractors reduce or remove the need to tow trailers when they use the Super Contractor Truck system.

What sizes of enclosed bodies are available for the Super Contractor Truck?

Super Contractor Trucks are available with 6 foot long by 8 foot wide OR 8 foot long by 8-foot-wide enclosed bodies. Often called a box body or enclosed truck body, the roomy tool storage bodies have optional roll-up doors or easy-to-use loading ramps to quickly load wheeled equipment into the truck body. Super Contractor Trucks are equipped with rugged tool storage systems inside to keep your tools organized, protected from theft, or bad weather. The enclosed truck body provides secure tool storage preventing tool damage during transport.

We recommend you take a look at the photos and videos of the Super Contractor Trucks by following this link.

What size of dump bodies are available with the Super Contractor Truck?

Dump truck bodies are available in two configurations: steel or aluminum/composite versions. The steel dump bodies are available in 8 foot long, 10 foot long or 12-foot-long versions. The aluminum composite dump bodies are available in 8 foot long or 10-foot-long versions. All of the Super Contractor Truck dump bodies in steel or aluminum composite models are 8 foot wide. There are several options of dump body sides and optional loading ramps on the steel dump bodies. Take a look at SCT photos here.

What type of truck chassis are available for the Super Contractor Truck?

The Super Contractor Truck can be purchased with the Isuzu N series or Chevy W series of cab forward trucks. You can choose from single cab trucks to seat 3 people or crew cab trucks that seat up to 7 people. You can choose from gas powered or diesel-powered chassis units. The gross vehicle weight rating of the available models begins at 14,500 pounds and goes up to 19,500 pounds. The exact body package you select will determine the most cost-effective body and chassis package. We recommend Isuzu N-series work trucks for your Super Contractor Truck body package.

What’s the most popular version of the Super Contractor Truck (SCT)?

Each Super Contractor Truck design is based on the needs of the buyer. The SCT is available in single cab or crew cab models. Your crew size will determine the best chassis model. Contractors who use their Super Contractor Truck for lawn services, mulching and pruning crews often select the eight-foot enclosed body plus eight-foot dump body with 30-inch-high sides. The optional 30-inch side wall extensions create a 60 inch high side and can allow up to 11 cubic yards of mulch or debris in one compact truck. The Isuzu NRR is the most popular chassis for the Super Contractor Truck.

What’s the most affordable version of the Super Contractor Truck?

If you want to design the most affordable version of the Super Contractor Truck, select a gas-powered Isuzu NPR-HD chassis with the combination eight-foot enclosed body plus the 8-foot aluminum dump body with 30-inch-high sides. Equip your enclosed body with a roll-up side door and two step walk in entry. For a few more dollars you may select the optional fold-down loading ramp on the enclosed body for loading wheeled equipment like a mini-skid loader, wheeled lawn equipment, or power wheelbarrows.

What’s the difference between the steel dump body and the aluminum composite dump body?

Contractors may choose from the all-steel dump body or the aluminum composite dump body on their Super Contractor Truck. Each body style has advantages. The all-steel body generally costs a few dollars less than the aluminum composite dump body. However, the aluminum composite dump body can reduce the dump body weight by 1000 pounds allowing for more cargo capacity on your truck. Aluminum and composite dump bodies offer tremendous corrosion protection compared to all steel construction. Steel dump bodies have long been known for their rugged dependability when used in landscaping, hardscaping, or masonry trades.

What are the advantages of the aluminum and composite body package?

When contractors select the aluminum composite dump body, they instantly gain additional cargo capacity. Aluminum and composite weigh much less than steel. In some cases, you may be able to select a truck chassis with a lower gross vehicle weight capacity (GVWC). When you select a lower GVWC truck chassis, you can save money on the cost of the truck chassis. Aluminum and composite bodies have significant corrosion resistance compared to steel dump bodies. This is an important feature for companies who operate their trucks in highly corrosive snow removal or fertilizer application services.

What is the dump body lift (hoist) capacity on the Super Contractor Truck?

The Super Contractor Dump body can be equipped with a four-ton, five-ton or six-ton hoist capacity. The four-ton hoist is recommended with the aluminum composite dump body option. The five-ton hoist capacity is recommended with the steel dump body option. The five-ton hoist is required if you select the 12-foot steel dump body option with your Super Contractor package. A 6-ton hoist is an option for the 12 foot steel dump body.  Since the available cargo weight capacity for the Super Contractor Truck is around 10,000 pounds, the six-ton hoist has more dump capacity than the truck cargo capacity. Owners of the Super Contractor Truck will notice the 6-ton hoist has a much slower operating speed during dumping operations when compared to the 4-ton or 5-ton hoist.

How much cargo weight can the Super Contractor Truck haul?

The total cargo capacity will be determined by the truck chassis you select and the Super Contractor Truck body package you select. For example, if you select the Isuzu NPR-HD gas powered chassis with GVCW of 14,500 pounds and an eight-foot enclosed body plus 8 foot aluminum composite dump body, you will create cargo capacity around 5000 to 6000 pounds. Your exact cargo weight capacity will be determined by the option equipment like fuel stations, loading ramps, tool boxes and cargo control equipment.

If you select the Isuzu NRR gas powered chassis with GVCW of 19,500 pounds and an eight foot enclosed body plus eight foot aluminum composite dump body you will create cargo capacity around 10,000 to 11,000 pounds. We always recommend you carefully consider the maximum cargo weight capacity you need for your crew and select the truck chassis and body package that provides an adequate cargo capacity for your crew.

Why does the weight capacity of the truck, the truck body, cargo and tools matter so much when you design the Super Contractor Truck?

In order to provide a commercial work truck that is safe to operate and provide many years of dependable service, it must not be overloaded. If you overload commercial work trucks, there are a number of problems you can create including:

  1. Reduced braking ability: Overloaded trucks require more distance to come to a complete stop, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions, especially in emergency situations.
  2. Decreased maneuverability: Excess weight can affect the truck’s handling and stability, making it more difficult for the driver to steer and control the vehicle, especially on curves or during sudden lane changes.
  3. Tire failure: Overloading can put excessive strain on the tires, leading to increased wear and the potential for blowouts. This is particularly dangerous at high speeds or on highways where blowouts can cause loss of control and accidents.
  4. Suspension and chassis damage: The added weight can exceed the vehicle’s design limits, leading to stress on the suspension system, frame, and other structural components. Over time, this can result in premature wear, fatigue, and potential failure of critical parts.
  5. Increased risk of rollover: Overloaded trucks have a higher center of gravity, making them more prone to tipping over, especially when navigating sharp turns or uneven road surfaces.
  6. Overloading commercial trucks is illegal: If you operate commercial work trucks on public highways, roads and streets, you have a responsibility to know your vehicle weight capacity and avoid overloading the posted Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). You can find the GVWR posted on the truck manufacturer identification tag. Your state department of transportation and local law enforcement will enforce regulations regarding overloaded vehicles.
What is the dumping capacity of the Super Contractor Truck steel dump body?

The Super Contractor Truck equipped with the steel dump body and 5-ton hoist can dump approximately 10,000 pounds. However, dump capacity could be less or more depending on how the cargo is loaded. Loading cargo to the front area of the dump body will lower dumping capacity. Loading cargo to the rear of the dump body may increase dump capacity. We recommend SCT operators load their cargo in an even and uniform manner across the truck chassis and cargo loading areas. If you select the optional 6-ton hoist the dump capacity increases to approximately 12,000 pounds.

What is the dumping capacity of the Super Contractor Truck aluminum dump body?

The Super Contractor Truck equipped with the aluminum and composite dump body and 4-ton hoist can dump approximately 8,000 pounds.

How tall is the Super Contractor Truck?

The height of the Super Contractor Truck from the ground to the top of the enclosed truck body is approximately ten feet six inches high. This measurement assumes the Super Contractor Truck body package has been installed on the Isuzu N series or Chevrolet W series cab forward truck chassis.

How wide is the Super Contractor Truck?

The Super Contractor Truck is designed with exterior body width at eight-foot widths (96 inches wide). All Super Contractor Trucks are built to comply with federal highway safety administration regulations (FHSA). To comply with FHSA regulations, body packages must remain under 102 inches wide. Super Contractor Trucks are designed to comply with the body build guidelines provided by the truck chassis manufacturer and the FHSA.

How long is the Super Contractor Truck?

The Super Contractor Truck overall length will be determined by the cab chassis you select plus the body package you select for your truck.

For example, if you design your Super Contractor Truck with a single cab Isuzu NPR-HD chassis with a 150-inch wheelbase, a six foot long enclosed body and an eight foot long dump body, the overall length of the SCT would be approximately 21 feet long.

If you design your Super Contractor Truck with a crew cab Isuzu NRR chassis with a 212-inch wheelbase, an eight foot long enclosed body and a ten foot long dump body, the overall length of the SCT would be approximately 28 feet long.

What is the longest dump body available on the single cab version of the Super Contractor Truck?

Each single cab Super Contractor Truck is evaluated for compliance to weight distribution and chassis manufacturer body builder requirements. Super Contractor Truck steel dump bodies are available in eight-foot, ten-foot, and twelve-foot-long dump bodies. The twelve-foot-long dump body is only available in the steel dump configuration. The aluminum composite dump bodies are available in eight-foot and ten-foot-long bodies.

What is the longest dump body available on the crew cab version of the Super Contractor Truck?

Each crew cab Super Contractor Truck is evaluated for compliance to weight distribution and chassis manufacturer body builder requirements. Super Contractor Truck dump bodies are available in eight-foot, ten-foot, and twelve-foot-long dump bodies. The twelve-foot-long dump body is only available in the steel dump configuration. The longest dump body on the crew cab Super Contractor Truck will be determined by the wheelbase of the truck chassis and the size of the enclosed body selected. If you need a twelve-foot-long dump body the maximum length of the enclosed body would be six-foot-long. The aluminum composite dump bodies are available in eight foot and ten-foot-long dump bodies. Contact your Super Contractor Truck sales representative to help you design your Super Contractor Truck.

Is a commercial driver’s license (CDL) required to drive a Super Contractor Truck?

No. Super Contractor Trucks are designed to be built on the medium duty Isuzu N series and Chevrolet W series cab forward trucks. These trucks have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) up to 19,500 pounds which is below the federal CDL requirement.  A commercial driver’s license is required when you drive/operate trucks with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) over 26,000 pounds. The GCWR of the Isuzu N series and Chevrolet W series trucks have a maximum weight rating of 25,500 pounds. The Super Contractor Truck is designed to fall under the weight classification that requires a commercial drivers license.

What is the towing capacity of the Isuzu N series or Chevrolet W series trucks?

The rated towing capacity is up to 6,000 pounds in addition to the maximum gross vehicle weight rating of the chassis. For example, an Isuzu NRR chassis with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 19,500 pounds has a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 25,500 (19,500 GVWR + 6,000 towing capacity = 25,500 GCWR). If you select the Isuzu NPR-HD with a 14,500 pound GVWR the GCWR would be 20,500 pounds. If you select the class 3 Isuzu NPR with a 12,000 pound GVWR and 6,000 pound towing capacity you have a 18,000 pound GCWR.

Can a Super Contractor Truck be used for both lawn maintenance and tree work?

Yes. The Super Contractor Truck can be used by a wide variety of contractors. Tree service contractors love the enclosed tool storage area to keep chainsaws and hand tools out of the weather and locked in a safe and secure storage area. Tree service contractors enjoy the convenience of a dump body built onto the chassis. The dump body can be used for hauling debris such as tree waste and wood chips. The purpose built roll-up tarp is available to make debris hauling safe and secure.

All models of the Super Contractor Truck come equipped with a rugged towing hitch, brake controller and two back up cameras for safety. One back up camera is mounted on the rear of the enclosed body so you can monitor your load in the dump body from the cab. There is also a backup camera mounted under the rear frame of the truck for protection from loading and unloading operations. The rear camera is a tremendous help to monitor operations immediately behind the dump body and makes hooking up trailers easy.

Lawn maintenance contractors use the Super Contractor Truck for a variety of lawn services like mulch hauling and mulch installation. The optional flower racks for the enclosed body create storage for flats of flowers or ground covers for enhancement crews. The tool storage racks keep lawn maintenance tools secure and safe during transport from job to job.

Hardscape contractors are able to keep their hardscaping tools locked up and out of the weather. The dump body is equipped with optional fold-down sides to make it easy to load pallets of pavers, bagged concrete or pallets of segmental blocks for wall construction.

The Super Contractor Truck can be equipped with the optional side loading ramp to allow loading of wheeled equipment such as a mini skid loader. The side loading ramps can be used for loading stand on lawn mowers, walk behind lawn mowers or push mowers. You can use the side loading ramp to load lawn aerators, sod cutting machines, power wheelbarrows, compaction equipment and much more.

Landscaping contractors love the fold down sides of the dump body for loading and unloading plants. Supplies such as edging restraint, weed control fabric and bulk stone can easily be loaded and unloaded making their landscaping crews more productive.

Can the Super Contractor Truck can be used/recommended for lawn fertilizer applications?

Yes. You can easily load push-type fertilizer spreaders using the side loading ramp. You can load bagged fertilizer into the enclosed body or load full pallets of fertilizer onto the dump body of the Super Contractor Truck.

If you use stand-on sprayer spreaders like a Z-spray or Permagreen we recommend you test loading. The side loading ramp on the enclosed body of the Super Contractor Truck has a loading angle of approximately 23 degrees. Although the side loading ramp is safe to load equipment up to published weight limits of 1600, 3200 or 4000 pounds, the angle of inclination will limit loading of some models of equipment.

The side loading ramps are available in 60 inch and 48 inch wide models. Please review and carefully measure the width of your equipment prior to ordering your Super Contractor Truck side loading ramp options.

Can we load lawn mowers into the Super Contractor Truck?

Yes. You can load a variety of lawn mowers into the enclosed body portion of the Super Contractor Truck if it is equipped with the side loading ramp option. Generally speaking, this loading ramp is not recommended for ride on models of zero turn mowers.

Walk behind mowers, stand on mowers and push mowers can be loaded onto the Super Contractor Truck. If you plan to load ride on models of zero turn lawn mowers we recommend the Super Lawn Truck Eco series of trucks or the Super Lawn Truck Fast Track series of trucks with built on rear of body loading ramps.

Can we add the on board accessory fuel tanks to the Super Contractor Truck?

Yes. You may add on board transport tanks to refuel lawn mowers with regular unleaded fuel, two cycle equipment such as backpack blowers or chain saws and diesel powered equipment such as skid loaders and tractors.

The exact size of the transport tanks will be determined by the design of the truck body package you select and the cab chassis model selected. The most popular on board fuel tank package for the Super Contractor Truck is a three tank package to carry regular unleaded gasoline, pre-mix fuel for two cycle equipment and a third tank for diesel fuel.

To learn more about the on board transport tank option, we recommend you watch the video found here.

What safety features can be installed or provided with the Super Contractor Truck?

As a final stage truck bodybuilder all Super Contractor Trucks are built to meet or exceed the Federal Highway Safety Administration requirements and the chassis manufacturer’s body builder guide. We will help you design your Super Contractor Truck so you do not overload the truck. SLT will help you design your truck to meet weight distribution guidelines as well. The standard lighting package meets FHSA mandates. These are requirements that SLT takes very seriously when we are designing and making body recommendations.

The most popular safety features for the Super Contractor Truck include the following safety options:

  1. A two-camera backup system can be added so you can monitor the load in the dump body and see the blind spot immediately behind the truck.
  2. Many safety-conscious contractors like to add a safety cone holder storage bracket under the body and on the exterior of the vehicle to make access to safety cones fast and easy when you park your truck on job sites or along roadways.
  3. Contractors who work on right of ways of streets, roads, interstates or parking lots like to include a flashing safety light package. You can take a look at this safety option video by clicking this link.
  4. All Super Contractor Trucks are equipped with a fire extinguisher and triangle kit in the cab of the truck to meet DOT regulations. Many contractors choose to add a second fire extinguisher that is mounted inside the enclosed truck body. This is a standard option included at no additional charge when you purchase your medium duty Isuzu N series or Chevy W series chassis from SLT.
  5. A first aid kit is an optional safety feature. We recommend installing this safety option inside the enclosed body of the Super Contractor Truck.
  6. All buyers of Super Contractor Trucks receive an operator training session with a SLT representative. The operator safety briefing checklist is also provided to the truck buyer so they can properly train their drivers on safe operation.
  7. All buyers of Super Contractor Trucks receive online access to an operator training video at no additional charge.
  8. All buyers of Super Contractor Trucks receive a print copy of the owner’s manual for installed equipment and the chassis they have purchased.
What’s the best chassis option for a Super Contractor Truck, gas or diesel powered?

Most Super Contractor Trucks are built on Isuzu N series or Chevy W series chassis cabs. These trucks offer an unmatched capacity to add an enclosed body plus a dump body package. The cab-forward design of this chassis provides a long flat frame rail well suited for the Super Contractor Truck design.

Isuzu N series and Chevy W series trucks are available in both gas and diesel powered chassis units. Each option provides advantages. Selection of gas or diesel engines is largely customer preference.
